    • February 5th, 2016 - A Message from the ACT 46 Committee

The streamlining savings would come from a variety of places. One major example would be in business operations. Currently, the FCSU business office must create five separate and duplicate budgets, have five separate audits and provide regular financial reports to five separate school boards. That takes an enormous amount of staff time. In a merged district, it would be reduced to one budget, one audit and reports to just one board.

There are many other opportunities such as shared administrative staff, […]

    • February 4th, 2016 - A Message from the ACT 46 Committee

If the Articles of Agreement to merge is approved by the voters in all three towns (St. Albans Town, St. Albans City and Fairfield), taxpayers will get tax incentives over five years of 10 cents, 8 cents, 6 cents, 4 cents and 2 cents in each of the participating towns. No one can determine what the tax impact will be until budgets are passed, but it will be that much less than it will be without the incentives. Visit the […]

    • February 3rd, 2016 - A Message from the ACT 46 Committee

The educational advantages to a unification are many. First and foremost, a unified school district would help ensure that all students in the district receive an equitable, quality education regardless of town of residence. It would help ensure that each student entering BFA would arrive equally prepared having received the same excellent opportunities.

Unification would create a single school district and elected board responsible for all grades, pre-K through twelve. The unified school board would assume all of the responsibilities of […]

    • February 2nd, 2016 - A Message from the ACT 46 Committee

Act 46 of 2015 is an opportunity for districts and supervisory unions to unify existing disparate governance structures into sustainable systems of education delivery that are designed to meet identified State goals, while recognizing and reflecting local priorities. There is no mandate to close or merge schools, but to unify the governance – for this region that means going from five school boards to one.  Residents of St. Albans Town, St. Albans City and Fairfield will vote to unify on Town […]

    • January 29th, 2016 - A Message from the ACT 46 Committee

Your ability to address the unified school board directly about issues will not change with unification. The board members of the new unified district will be elected by the voters of the three towns at the same time the merger is voted on.  All board meetings would be open to the public, and contact information for the board would be available on the district web site.

In addition, while the board will be twice the size of most local boards now, […]

    • January 28th, 2016 - A message from the ACT 46 Committee

The role that the community will have in our schools after unification should see little change. The culture of each school really isn’t driven by the school board. It is driven by dedicated parents and townspeople who take an active role in their schools through parent organizations, by volunteering during the school day and for after-school activities, by sponsoring and running events, by coaching sports, directing plays, and teaching about the environment. Those roles and needs will not change.

      The full […]
